1) What first inspired you to start acting?
Being something of a show-off and attention-seeker as a youngster, acting rather set the tone for what would become a significant influence in my life. My earliest memories of being on stage were as Grumpy in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and the Innkeeper in a school Nativity play. Evidently, my versatility was apparent from an early age…
2. How long have you been involved in theatre and what past roles or productions are memorable for you?
I’ve been involved with Ember Players for four years now, and this marks my fourth production with the company. Previous roles include Frederick and the Ghost of Marley in A Christmas Carol, Galileo in A Life of Galileo, and Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Goose. Playing Galileo was a particular highlight and a performance I’ll always look back on fondly.
3. What drew you to audition for “Gaslight”, and what do you enjoy most about our character?
I began this production as director, but later in the process stepped into the role of ex-detective Rough. Rough is active, brusque, friendly and overbearing in equal measure. He provides some of the play’s lighter moments, while also embodying some of the patronising side of the emotional manipulation that runs throughout the story. I’ve really enjoyed getting under his skin.
4. What have you enjoyed most about being part of the Ember Players Theatre Company?
Being trusted with the opportunity to direct this production has meant a great deal to me. I’ve loved working with such a committed group of performers, many of whom were new to the company. I feel genuinely lucky to have met them and to have shared this process together.
