1) What first inspired you to start acting?
I’ve loved acting for as long as I can remember. As a child, my sister and I would spend hours dressing up, inventing characters, and staging little shows at home. I joined a local drama class when I was ten, back in Germany where I grew up, and that was the moment I realised how much I enjoyed stepping into different worlds and telling stories.
2. How long have you been involved in theatre, and what past roles or productions are memorable for you?
I’ve been involved in theatre since childhood, starring in school productions and later supporting film students by featuring in short films at university. When I lived in London in my twenties, I continued acting as a hobby and took evening classes at Central. The course gave me a deeper appreciation for character development and the craft of acting, and I loved being in such a creative environment.
One of my most memorable roles was playing Antigone in Sophocles’ tragedy. It was a powerful and emotionally demanding experience. I remember feeling completely immersed in the character’s moral courage and defiance. It was the first time I truly understood how transformative theatre can be, both for the performer and the audience. After a (very :) long pause away from the stage, seeing the casting for Gaslight gave me the encouragement I needed to return to performing, and I’m so glad it did!
3. What drew you to the audition for Gaslight and what do you enjoy most about your character?
I was immediately drawn to the audition for Gaslight because I love the tension and psychological complexity of the play. The story of manipulation and hidden truths fascinated me, and I knew it would be a wonderfully challenging and rewarding production to be part of.
As for my character, Elizabeth, I love her quiet strength and loyalty. I’ve enjoyed exploring her stillness and subtlety, how much she sees and understands while remaining composed. Her understated moral courage and presence on stage make her a joy to play.
4. What have you enjoyed most about being part of the Ember Players Theatre Company?
Anne and Steve have been incredibly welcoming, and the cast is amazing. We all get on so well, and it’s such an encouraging environment. Director Tim has been wonderful at bringing out the best in all of us and making me feel completely at ease after not being on stage for so long. I’ve also loved meeting the brilliant team behind the scenes. Sherna has found some incredible costumes from her fabulous collection, and I can’t wait to see how Steve and Colin and the team bring the lighting, sound and staging to life. Being part of such a talented and passionate group has been an absolute pleasure.
